The first successful Agile project within ME Bank, DiUS delivered ahead of time, on budget, and with more functionality than the original scope of the project.

Launching a mobile banking application was a high priority for ME Bank, with visibility all the way to board level. The bank’s objective was to deliver a mobile application that was available across a wide variety of handsets and tablets within thirteen weeks, whilst providing a platform for the future evolution of the product. In addition to a tight delivery time frame, the application had to be delivered without impacting ME Banks’ transformation program. In order to accommodate competing priorities, DiUS conducted a technology spike to determine the most appropriate development approach.

To achieve this ambitious objective, DiUS collaborated with ME Bank to design the architecture and future roadmap for the product and then helped to set up and establish agile principles and practices to help lay the foundations for the project’s success. Starting lean, a small DiUS team collaborated with ME Bank to analyse the most used features from the Internet banking application to define a Minimum Viable Product and extended feature set for a cross-platform mobile application. Weekly showcases of working software ensured progress visibility as well as the quick resolution of any business or technical hurdles.

This approach proved so effective that the initial thirteen week project was delivered in just eight weeks with an extended feature set, on a platform that will allow the team to evolve the application to meet future needs. The new mobile application is now available in the Android and iOS app stores for download so ME Bank customers can bank on-the-go on a wide cross section of smartphone devices and tablets.
